SGMC Health Appoints New Chief Residents for Internal Medicine

SGMC Health has announced the appointment of Ornob Rahman, MD, and Samuel Edusa, MD, as chief residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, effective March 2026. Both physicians were selected by their peers and received formal approval from faculty and staff based on their exemplary leadership skills, professionalism, and dedication to clinical excellence.

The chief resident position is a prestigious role in medical education, designed to enhance clinical, teaching, and administrative skills. During their one-year tenure, Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa will act as essential liaisons between residents and faculty. Their responsibilities will include leading educational conferences, coordinating schedules, supervising trainees, and advocating for resident well-being.

Educational Leadership and Mentorship

In addition to guiding the Internal Medicine residents, Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa will also supervise Transitional Year residents, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Dr. Rahman earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts, where he developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care and academic leadership. Dr. Edusa graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School, where he gained a reputation for his clinical excellence and compassionate mentorship.

Greg Beale, MD, program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, expressed his confidence in the newly appointed leaders. Expansion of Medical Education Programs

The Medical Education program at SGMC Health continues to expand and thrive. In addition to the Internal Medicine Residency Program, the health system offers a one-year Transitional Year residency program, providing essential clinical experience for physicians entering various specialties. Looking toward the future, SGMC Health plans to launch a Family Medicine residency program in summer 2026, further reinforcing its commitment to enhancing healthcare access, education, and quality throughout the region.
