Construction has officially commenced on a new four-story TownePlace Suites hotel in St. Joseph, Missouri. The project, valued at $7.5 million, is located at 1401 N. Woodbine Road and will feature 129 guest rooms. This development is part of a broader trend of large-scale hotel projects in the area.
Project Details and Timeline
According to Nathan Pare, the Planning and Community Development Director, initial construction activities have progressed well. Foundation and underground utility work has been completed, with framing set to begin shortly. The hotel is slated for completion in 2026.
The city council had previously approved a measure in April to accept funds from the developer, Altira St. Joe Hotel LLC, for building plan review services. This funding has facilitated the project’s advancement.
The new TownePlace Suites will provide various amenities, including a breakfast area, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and an outdoor patio. This establishment adds to the existing network of over 500 TownePlace Suites locations across the United States and Canada, including several in nearby Kansas City.
Impact on the Local Hospitality Landscape
This hotel initiative is one of three significant hotel projects currently underway or planned in St. Joseph. A separate $60 million development on Frederick Avenue aims to construct two large hotels and a new conference center, which is already under construction. This project alone will add nearly 250 new rooms to the local hospitality market.
In addition, a $5.1 million investment for a 90-room WoodSpring Suites hotel and conference center is underway along South Belt Highway, near San Jose Steakhouse. These developments indicate a robust growth trajectory for St. Joseph’s hospitality sector, responding to increasing demand for accommodations in the region.
As construction progresses on the TownePlace Suites, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential economic benefits this project will bring to St. Joseph, enhancing both tourism and local business opportunities.
