Shoppers around the world can join actor Harvey Guillén in supporting local museums this holiday season during Museum Store Sunday on November 30, 2025. Guillén, known for his role as “Guillermo de la Cruz” in the Emmy-nominated series “What We Do in the Shadows,” began his holiday shopping at The Library Store, part of the historic Los Angeles Central Library.
With over 2,300 museum stores participating globally, Museum Store Sunday encourages consumers to purchase unique gifts while directly funding exhibitions and community programs at their favorite institutions. “As an artist myself, it feels good to know our purchases support local creators,” Guillén stated during his shopping spree in Los Angeles. He emphasized the importance of experiencing local art and culture through museum visits, often accompanied by his sister.
Guillén discovered various gifts made by local artisans, including the Trejo’s Hot Sauce Variety Pack and a Reading Brings Us Together T-Shirt. The annual event, launched by the Museum Store Association in 2017, takes place every year on the Sunday following Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, promoting purpose-driven shopping.
Unique Offerings and Discounts
Participating museum stores feature exclusive, location-specific items crafted by local makers. Christine Romero, Director of Retail Services at The Library Store, highlighted the collaboration with local artists to create unique merchandise. “A few years ago, the Los Angeles Public Library teamed up with LA artist Gajin Fujita to create a limited-edition library card showcasing a detail from his painting, ‘Guardian Angel,’” she explained.
On November 30, shoppers at The Library Store will receive a 15% discount on purchases and a free tote bag with purchases over $100, while supplies last. Other participating stores are also offering discounts and special events. For example, the Mint Museum Store in Charlotte will feature a 30% discount and a pop-up event with La Bonbonniere Bakery, while the Cummer Museum Shop in Jacksonville will provide a 25% storewide discount along with meet-the-maker events.
The MCA Chicago Store is offering a 15% discount, and the de Young and Legion of Honor museum stores in San Francisco are promoting a 10% discount with trunk shows featuring local artists.
Support for Local Creators
The aim of Museum Store Sunday is not only to provide shoppers with unique gifts but also to support the local economy. Many museum stores emphasize mission-driven products, ranging from books and home decor to gourmet food and children’s toys. Shoppers are encouraged to explore both online and in-person options to find gifts that resonate with their personal experiences and favorite cultural institutions.
For those interested in participating, a complete list of stores can be found at www.museumstoresunday.org/find-a-store. The Museum Store Association remains dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience at cultural institutions, ensuring that shopping at these stores contributes to the sustainability and outreach of museums worldwide.
