New Leadership and Website Revitalize Empty Stocking Fund

The Empty Stocking Fund, a local charity established over 75 years ago, has undergone significant changes this year with new leadership and the launch of a dedicated website. The fund, which supports the Salvation Army in providing toys to children in need during the Christmas season, continues its mission with a renewed focus on community engagement.

Margie Blanton, who has dedicated two decades to overseeing the fund, retired after last year’s collection. Her contributions significantly shaped the organization, making it a trusted source of generosity in the community. Taking over her responsibilities is Shea Zeigler, also from Guardian Bank. Zeigler is committed to maintaining the fund’s longstanding mission while enhancing its impact within the community.

A noteworthy development is the launch of a new website, designed in collaboration with Anchored Media Marketing. This digital platform aims to streamline the donation process and facilitate connections with the fund’s mission. The site allows donors and community members to easily support families in need across South Georgia as the holiday season approaches. To explore the new website or contribute, visit https://emptystockingfundvaldosta.org.

In addition to direct donations, the Empty Stocking Fund is co-sponsored by various local organizations, including The Valdosta Daily Times. Readers are encouraged to look for a pre-addressed envelope in future editions to contribute. Contributions can also be mailed directly to the fund at Empty Stocking Fund, c/o Shea Zeigler, Guardian Bank, PO Box 3400, Valdosta, GA 31604. Electronic donations can be made through the new website.

Donors will be recognized in editions of The Valdosta Daily Times, showcasing their generosity. Some contributors prefer to remain anonymous, while others choose to honor or remember loved ones through their gifts. The recognition of donors will commence on Tuesday and will continue until just after the New Year.

Another vital supporter of the Empty Stocking Fund is the Outback Riders motorcycle club, which hosts an annual toy run. This year marks the 33rd edition of the event, scheduled for December 20, 2025. The run will begin at 9 a.m. at Roger Budd’s Outlet Mall in Lake Park. For more details, participants can visit the Riders’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/outbackriderstoyride.

As the Empty Stocking Fund embraces its new leadership and modernized outreach tools, the organization is poised to continue its essential work, ensuring that local children experience the joy of the holiday season.
