FBI Raids Timothy Busfield’s Cabin Amid Child Abuse Charges

Photos of actor Timothy Busfield’s Catskills cabin have surfaced following a recent FBI raid on the property. The 68-year-old actor, best known for his role in “The West Wing,” faces serious allegations related to child sex abuse. He was arrested in New Mexico earlier this month on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. Since then, additional allegations have emerged, including a claim from 2001 regarding the assault of a 16-year-old girl, and another from 1997 involving a 17-year-old.

Busfield has publicly denied all charges, asserting that the allegations against him are “all lies.” He is currently being held without bond, with a court hearing scheduled for January 20, 2024. The raid on his cabin was conducted by ten armed law enforcement officers from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, who were attempting to take him into custody. However, Busfield had already surrendered to police in New Mexico prior to the raid.

Images from the cabin have drawn attention, depicting the property in a state of disarray. The couple purchased the 14-acre property in 2018 for $98,000. Melissa Gilbert, Busfield’s wife, described the cabin as “stinky” and “sad” when they first acquired it. In an interview with Next Avenue in 2022, she recounted the shocking condition of the home, stating that it was filled with rotting deer heads, pornography, and even bottles of holy water.

Gilbert recalled the overwhelming smell that greeted them when they first entered the cabin. “I’ve smelled musty places, but I’ve never smelled anything like the smell that came from this house. It was overwhelming,” she explained. Upon further inspection, they discovered various personal items left behind by the previous owners, including boxes of cereal in the pantry and shampoo in the shower.

As they began to clean and renovate the home, Gilbert noted the bizarre mix of items they found. “We found hidden bottles of booze, of course, to go with the holy water. Gotta have balance!” she said. Despite the initial shock, Gilbert mentioned that the more they worked on the house, the more they could see its potential beyond the “musty, stinky, crowded place” they initially encountered.

The couple moved into the property at Christmas 2019 and lived there together until Busfield’s recent arrest. As the investigation continues, the public remains captivated by both the serious allegations against the actor and the peculiar history of the cabin he called home.
