Beloved Community Leader Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs Passes Away

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 85 years old. Her death marks the end of a life devoted to family, faith, and service.

Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, to Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem, Donna faced early challenges following the death of her father. Her mother later remarried Donald H. Jones, who played a significant role in raising Donna and her siblings. The family relocated to North Tustin during Donna’s teenage years, where she completed her education at Mater Dei High School and later attended Orange Coast College.

A Career in Education and Community Service

Donna dedicated 13 years of her professional life to the Coast Community College District, serving as the student loan and due diligence officer. After retiring, she embraced new adventures, traveling extensively with her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs, and engaging actively in her local community.

Her dedication to her Christian faith was evident in her involvement with various charitable organizations aimed at assisting those in need. Donna’s spirit of service deeply impacted many lives, reflecting her commitment to helping others throughout her life.

Family and Legacy

Donna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Babbs, and their three daughters: Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs. She also leaves behind her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, who will remember her warmth and generosity. Her brother, Richard Jones, and her sisters-in-law, Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem.

A funeral service in her honor will take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine on December 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. Following the service, there will be an interment and reception to celebrate her life.

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs will be remembered not only for her loving family and friendships but also for her unwavering dedication to her faith and community. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
