Community Mourns Loss of Cindy Corigliano Taylor, 55, to Cancer

Cindy Corigliano Taylor, a cherished member of her community and a passionate advocate for young athletes, passed away on August 25, 2025, after a determined fight against cancer. Born on January 29, 1970, in Glendale, California, Cindy was the beloved daughter of Frank and Marzell Corigliano. She is survived by her husband, Steve Taylor, and their daughter, Josie Taylor, in addition to her brother, Chris Corigliano, and his family. Cindy’s legacy will continue to resonate deeply among family, friends, and the entire SWISH / GBALL Girls Basketball community.

From a young age, Cindy exhibited a warm spirit, curiosity, and a profound love for her family and friends. These attributes defined her throughout her life. Family remained her foremost priority, and her unwavering commitment to them was evident in everything she did. Tragically, she faced the loss of her daughter, Sophia, who passed away at the age of six, an event that profoundly shaped her life and mission.

Cindy graduated from Soquel High School and later attended the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), where she pursued a career as a Graphic Designer at West Marine. Her dedication, integrity, and compassion left a significant mark on her colleagues and the community. She approached life’s challenges with resilience and celebrated her successes with humility.

Passion for Basketball and Community Impact

Cindy’s love for basketball was a defining aspect of her life. After the loss of Sophia, she found purpose through her involvement with SWISH, which became a vital avenue for honoring her daughter’s memory. She transformed her grief into a commitment to inspire and uplift young girls in the sport. Through her tireless efforts, Cindy fostered an environment in which sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth flourished.

Even while battling her own illness, Cindy prioritized her work with SWISH, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to empowering girls both on and off the basketball court. Her influence extended beyond the sport, as she instilled confidence and resilience in those she mentored. Cindy was known for her distinctive laughter and her ability to make others feel valued and loved.

In addition to her commitment to basketball, Cindy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved the cinema, particularly indulging in buttered popcorn, often carrying a salt packet for “salt emergencies.” Her affinity for the outdoors and her compassion for animals further illustrated her nurturing spirit.
