AlignLife of Tryon Drives Community Spirit with Toy Collection

In a vibrant display of community engagement, AlignLife of Tryon is collecting toys for the 2025 Polk County Toy Run, an annual charity event that supports underprivileged children during the holiday season. This year, the chiropractic practice, led by Dr. Clay Baker, is utilizing a vintage 1967 Volkswagen Van to encourage donations. The “Stuff the VW Bus” initiative commenced on November 26 and invites residents to contribute new, unwrapped toys to support local children in need.

The Polk County Toy Run, scheduled for November 29, features motorcyclists from across the Carolinas who ride together to raise funds and awareness. The ride begins at the Tryon Arts and Crafts School and winds through Tryon, Landrum, Green Creek, and Mill Spring, all under the supervision of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Dr. Baker expressed pride in the practice’s involvement, stating, “It’s all about giving back and making a difference during the holidays.” AlignLife has participated in the Toy Run for several years, previously providing a donation box at their location at 1053 S Trade St., and promoting the event with the striking Volkswagen Van owned by Practice Manager Angela Metcalf and her husband, Michael Metcalf. The van not only serves as a collection point but also adds a nostalgic element to the campaign, having appeared in the Tryon Christmas Parade in previous years.

“We wanted to make a big splash for the community with the VW van,” Dr. Baker added. “It not only adds a fun, nostalgic touch to our efforts but also gets people excited about donating.” The aim is to collect as many toys as possible, with the vehicle acting as a beacon for community support.

The Polk County Toy Run has garnered significant backing over the years, successfully raising toys and funds for organizations such as the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Outreach, Steps to Hope, and Polk County DSS. Toy Run organizer Barry Gee emphasized the importance of donation drives, stating, “The donation boxes are crucial for making it easy for everyone to contribute. Every toy and dollar collected goes directly to the children in need.”

Motorcycle registration for the event begins at 10:30 a.m., with the ride typically departing around 1:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to contribute either a $10 monetary donation per bike or a new, unwrapped toy. The procession concludes at the Polk County Courthouse, where attendees can cheer on the riders and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.

AlignLife’s active participation in the Toy Run highlights its commitment to supporting the Polk County community. As the toy collection continues, residents are invited to drop off donations at AlignLife and other local businesses, ensuring that every child can experience a joyful holiday season.
