Trump Calls Greene’s Planned Resignation Positive for the Nation

Former President Donald Trump expressed support for Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s announcement that she intends to resign from Congress in January 2024. In an interview with ABC News, Trump stated, “I think it’s great news for the country. It’s great.” He wished her well but indicated he does not plan to communicate with her further.

Greene’s relationship with Trump, once characterized by strong alliance, has soured significantly. Their discord primarily stems from differing views on the release of information related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. Greene was one of the few Republicans advocating for the public disclosure of related documents, while Trump opposed this move until he ultimately conceded, following an overwhelming vote in the House to make the documents public.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump announced he would withdraw his support for Greene, suggesting he would back a Republican challenger in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. He referred to her as a “ranting lunatic” and noted, “I understand that wonderful, conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her district of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics.” Trump criticized her participation on The View, calling the show’s hosts “low-IQ, Republican-hating anchors.”

With Greene’s impending resignation, the responsibility now falls to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to schedule a special election to fill her congressional seat. The district, noted for its strong Republican leanings, will likely attract significant interest from potential candidates.

As the political landscape evolves, Greene’s resignation may reshape the dynamics within the Republican Party, particularly as it prepares for the next election cycle. Trump’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among some party members who are increasingly critical of Greene’s approach and public image.
