Williamsburg City Manager Andrew Trivette Resigns, DeWitt Steps In

Williamsburg City Manager Andrew Trivette has resigned, a decision that the City Council accepted during a special meeting on the morning of October 25, 2023. Following his departure, Michele Mixner DeWitt, the deputy city manager, will assume the role of interim city manager, as announced in an official news release.

The city stated, “As the resignation is a personnel matter, no further details will be provided.” They also expressed gratitude towards Trivette for his ten years of service and dedication to the Williamsburg community.

Trivette began his career with the city in 2016 as an assistant city manager and was appointed city manager in 2018. His leadership during challenging times, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, has been recognized by the council. Under his guidance, the city launched significant initiatives, including the Future Festival, and oversaw the construction of key facilities such as a new fire station, police station, and the Greater Williamsburg Sports and Events Center.

DeWitt has a robust history with the city, having previously served as its first economic development director before her promotions to assistant city manager in 2021 and deputy city manager in 2025. Her experience positions her well to manage the city’s operations during this transitional period.

The City Council’s decision is part of ongoing efforts to ensure stability and continuity in city governance, as they work to address the community’s needs and future development plans. Further updates on the city’s management and initiatives are anticipated as DeWitt takes on her new responsibilities.
