Beloved Educator Frederic Earl Marsee Passes at 83

Frederic Earl Marsee, a cherished educator whose influence spanned over four decades, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on February 19, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on March 6, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, he dedicated his career to the Los Angeles County and the Redondo Beach Unified School District, where he served as a teacher, administrator, and principal.

Throughout his lifetime, Fred Marsee was renowned for his commitment to education. His passion for teaching inspired countless students and educators alike. Colleagues remember him not only for his professional achievements but also for his warmth and the personal connections he fostered in the classroom.

An avid lover of the ocean, Marsee spent his youth surfing along the South Bay coast. This affinity for the sea was complemented by a later passion for golf, which he pursued with enthusiasm, leading many to describe him as an “obsessive” golfer. His love for both sports reflected his spirited personality and zest for life.

Marsee is survived by his partner, Barbara Demarest; his daughter, Megan Koch; his son, Kevin Marsee; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Darren Marsee, a loss that deeply affected him throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life honoring Frederic Marsee will take place on March 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Memorials and Receptions, Rice Center, in Torrance. Friends, family, and former colleagues are invited to gather and share memories of his impact on their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that attendees consider making a donation to Blood Cancer United, a cause that was important to Marsee. Guests are also encouraged to mix a martini in his memory, reflecting his love for life and connection with others.
