The Arizona Wildcats football team has announced the commitment of former Georgetown linebacker Cooper Blomstrom. This addition marks a significant step in Arizona’s roster rebuilding efforts as they prepare to compete in the Big 12 Conference. Blomstrom, who stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 245 pounds, arrives in Tucson with one year of eligibility remaining.
During his three seasons at Georgetown, Blomstrom appeared in 31 games and made 19 starts. He accumulated impressive statistics, recording 117 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks. His defensive prowess also included five forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Blomstrom’s performance earned him recognition as a two-time All-Conference selection in the Patriot League, showcasing his ability to excel on the field.
Arizona’s coaching staff anticipates that Blomstrom will transition to a linebacker role, differing from his previous position on the defensive line at Georgetown. His versatility may mirror the contributions of Riley Wilson in the 2025 season, where Wilson frequently shifted between edge rusher and outside linebacker.
In the 2025 season, Blomstrom’s performance was noteworthy, as he secured First Team All-Patriot League honors. He concluded the season with 47 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top defenders in the FCS. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses will be invaluable for the Wildcats as they look to improve their defensive strategy.
The Wildcats return several key players to their linebacker corps, including rising seniors Taye Brown and Chase Kennedy. Brown has played in 24 games, with 18 consecutive appearances, while Kennedy started the last seven games of the previous season. The underclassmen group also features Jabari Mann and Myron Robinson, who previously started at Cincinnati before an injury. The incoming 2026 recruiting class will include Dash Fifita, the younger brother of Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita.
Blomstrom becomes Arizona’s third addition from the NCAA transfer portal, and notably, he is the first defensive player to join the Wildcats through this avenue. As the team continues to reshape its roster, Blomstrom’s experience and skill set are seen as pivotal to enhancing Arizona’s competitive edge in the upcoming season.
The Wildcats’ coaching staff and fans alike will be watching closely to see how Blomstrom integrates into the team and contributes to their ambitions in the Big 12.
