Ferriday High School’s varsity basketball teams excelled at the Rayville Tournament, remaining undefeated after strong performances against Tensas Parish High School. The Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Panthers with a commanding score of 68-29, while the boys’ team secured a decisive victory of 91-35.
In the girls’ game, the Ferriday Lady Trojans quickly established dominance, finishing the first quarter with a 22-12 lead. Their defensive strategy intensified in the second quarter, where they outscored the Lady Panthers 24-4, leading to a substantial halftime advantage of 46-16. Despite a brief surge from Tensas Parish in the third quarter, where they outscored Ferriday 8-5, the Lady Trojans regained their momentum, scoring 17 points in the fourth while restricting Tensas Parish to just five points.
A’Ziyah Jefferson led the scoring for Ferriday with an impressive 26 points. Other notable contributions came from Chermika Jones with 15 points, and Cherish Early, who added 12 points. McKenzie Clay and Shyzerria Scott each chipped in six points, while Zemi Milligan rounded out the scoring with three points. Tensas Parish’s top scorer was Abrielle Hill, who finished with 12 points.
The Lady Trojans improved their overall record to 7-2 with this win. They faced the host team, Rayville High School’s Lady Hornets, the following day, although the final score of that matchup has not been released. Looking ahead, the Lady Trojans are set to host Peabody Magnet High School on December 30, 2023 at 18:00.
In the boys’ competition, the Ferriday Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the LHSAA Non-Select Division IV, continued their strong season with a decisive win over Tensas Parish. They started the game strong, leading 22-10 after the first quarter. Despite Tensas’ effort to keep pace, with a halftime score of 49-33, the second half was dominated by Ferriday. They outscored Tensas Parish 25-11 in the third quarter and 17-9 in the fourth.
Five players for the Trojans scored in double figures, including Macia Maxon, Robert Taylor, and Jammion Woods, each contributing 12 points. BeBe Terrell and C.J. Washington each added 10 points. For Tensas Parish, D. Percy led with a game-high 17 points, followed closely by A. Brown with 13 points.
With this victory, the Ferriday Trojans improved to 13-0 overall and will head to Fayette for the Jefferson County Shootout, where they will face South Pike High School on December 27, 2023 at 15:00.
