Glenwood athletes recently received recognition for their impressive performances in various sports. At the District volleyball tournament on October 25, 2025, the Trout Lake/Glenwood volleyball team celebrated commendable achievements, notably with sophomore Jocee Hoctor earning a spot on the All League Second Team. Her teammates, Magdalena Rogers, also a sophomore, and junior Iris Deiders, received All League Honorable Mention accolades. Remarkably, Jocee and Magdalena were among the few sophomores to be honored, highlighting their significant contributions throughout the season.
In another exciting development, Glenwood high school sophomore Wyatt Patterson showcased his basketball skills as a member of the all-star team, the Savage Warriors. Recently, the team participated in the World Tribes Invitational Tournament held in Las Vegas, which featured competitors from various Tribes, including Yakama, Coeur d’Alene, Colville, and Spokane. The Savage Warriors demonstrated their talent by reaching the semi-finals and finishing fourth in the tournament. Wyatt’s involvement in this prestigious event allowed him to forge new friendships and create lasting memories, marking a highlight in his athletic journey.
The achievements of Glenwood’s athletes extend beyond volleyball and basketball. The Glenwood Eagles cross-country team, consisting of just two members, junior Anthony Avila and sophomore Blaine Arnold, also made their mark this season. Under the guidance of coach Aaron Oldenburg, both athletes participated in numerous meets, consistently setting personal records. Their dedication culminated at the District Cross-Country meet in Pendleton on October 31, 2025, where both athletes achieved their best times of the year. Anthony notably set a new school record, a milestone since the cross-country program was reinstated a few years ago.
As the community celebrates these athletic accomplishments, attention turns to upcoming events that promise to engage Glenwood residents. On November 23, 2025, the Klickitat County High School Rodeo Club will sell Christmas swags to raise funds for their travel expenses throughout the high school rodeo season. The swags, crafted by the club’s members, will be available starting at 10:00 a.m. in both Goldendale and Glenwood. Notably, rodeo team members Bailey Rickman and Riley Eichman will be selling swags on East Main Street in Glenwood. Given their popularity, community members are encouraged to arrive early to support this initiative.
Additionally, the Glenwood Community Church will host its annual Community Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at 4:00 p.m. on the same day. The event will take place in the school multipurpose room, with all community members invited to attend and contribute a favorite side dish or dessert. The church will provide the main dishes, including meat, potatoes, and dinner rolls, fostering a spirit of togetherness and gratitude.
In the festive spirit, Jennifer Throop will once again lead the Christmas Light competition this year. Emphasizing inclusivity, she has decided to keep the competition free, encouraging more community members to participate. Throop welcomes donations for prizes and volunteers to help judge the event, which promises to bring holiday cheer to Glenwood. Awards will be given to the top three displays, with a trophy and gift card for the first-place winner. As excitement builds, Throop is optimistic about making Glenwood even more visible from the International Space Station this holiday season.
The achievements of Glenwood’s athletes and the upcoming community events reflect the vibrant spirit of this small town. As the winter holidays approach, residents can look forward to celebrating both athletic successes and shared traditions.
