Packers Name Clayton Tune as Starting QB for Week 18 Matchup

The Green Bay Packers will see a change at quarterback as they prepare for their Week 18 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. While Jordan Love has cleared the concussion protocol, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced on Thursday that Clayton Tune will start in his place on Sunday.

Tune’s recent elevation from the practice squad to the 53-man roster comes after he was active as a practice squad player last week. Love’s absence means the Packers will rely on Tune to lead the team as they head into the final game of the regular season. The Packers have already secured the seventh seed in the playoffs, setting the stage for a road game in the Wild Card Round.

In last week’s game, Malik Willis started at quarterback but aggravated a right shoulder injury, leading to Tune’s limited appearance. Tune completed 1-of-4 passes for eight yards with one interception during the Packers’ 41-27 loss.

As the team prepares for the season finale, LaFleur indicated that there is no decision yet regarding Tune’s backup. The Packers signed Desmond Ridder to the practice squad on Wednesday, and he could be elevated for the game against the Vikings.

This shift in the quarterback position comes as the Packers look to build momentum heading into the playoffs. With Tune at the helm, the team will aim to finish the regular season on a positive note against their arch-rivals.
