URGENT UPDATE: Barbara Ann Meyer, aged 78, of Forney, TX, has passed away on January 3, 2026. Her family and friends are mourning the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, and community member.
Barbara was born on October 22, 1947, to Jimmie Peter Mikulenka and Mildred Agnes Mikulenka. A proud graduate of St. Joseph High School, class of 1965, she later attended Baldwin Business School, setting the stage for a dedicated career in public service.
She began her professional journey with the Dewitt County Health and Human Services before transferring to the Victoria County Social Security Office, where she excelled as a Claims Specialist. Following her marriage to Carl Meyer in August 1972, she continued her career in Houston and later the Dallas area, contributing significantly as an Administrative Assistant in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Revenue Service.
Barbara’s greatest joy came from her family. After welcoming her daughter, Stephanie, and son, Kevin, she devoted herself to their upbringing. In recent years, she cherished her role as “Nana” to her grandsons, Owen and Zeke, actively participating in their lives.
Her vibrant spirit was evident in her love for family gatherings and vacations at the beach. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Whisenant (Adam), siblings, and grandchildren. She was also a cherished sister-in-law and aunt.
“Barbara was a guiding light in our family, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire us,” said her daughter, Stephanie Whisenant.
The visitation will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary at 7:15 p.m.. The Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, officiated by Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
