Beloved Community Leader Christine Fitzpatrick Passes Away at 75

UPDATE: Community leader and former mayor of Ballston Spa, Christine M. Fitzpatrick, has passed away at the age of 75 on November 24, 2025. Her family and friends express profound sadness as they announce her departure, marking a significant loss for the community she served tirelessly.

Known for her unwavering dedication, Christine was the beloved wife of the late David L. Maynard and a cherished sister and aunt. Born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Christine was a vibrant presence in her community, where she had lived since 1981.

Christine’s remarkable journey began in Queens, New York, where she grew up with five siblings, fostering a deep connection with her extended family. She graduated from Saint Helena High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University, later pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.

Her career was marked by a commitment to public service, including roles as an elementary school teacher and a public servant at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington, D.C. She served as vice president of employee benefits at Macy’s, Inc., and played a pivotal role in negotiating health benefit contracts for New York State employees.

As the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council, Christine worked tirelessly to support community member agencies. Her public service culminated in her historic tenure as the first female mayor of Ballston Spa, where she transformed a $300,000 deficit into a robust $4.8 million fund balance, driving essential investments in local services.

Christine’s legacy as a trailblazer is deeply felt. She implemented master plans that enhanced community accessibility and encouraged citizen involvement. Her efforts have set a foundation for a vibrant and inclusive Ballston Spa.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Christine was a warm-hearted individual known for her adventurous spirit. She loved reading, family gatherings, and the arts, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Christine maintained an incredible ability to connect with others, with her thoughtful cards and messages of support resonating deeply.

She is survived by her loving siblings, nieces, nephews, and her partner, Richard Dautner. Christine Fitzpatrick’s impact on her community will be fondly remembered, as she was a beacon of love, support, and inspiration.

A celebration of Christine’s life is planned. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.
