Detroit Man Speaks Out After Brother’s Fatal Bar Attack

UPDATE: A Detroit man is speaking out for the first time after surviving a brutal attack that left his brother dead outside a west side bar earlier this month. Glenn Stevens, who was stabbed 14 times on January 4, 2024, has recently been released from the hospital, following the tragic incident at Chita’s Nefertiti Bar.

In an emotional statement, Glenn revealed that he and his brother, Jalen Stevens, were celebrating Jalen’s recent job promotion when violence erupted just after leaving the bar. “When I first woke up in the hospital, I asked where he was,” Glenn shared, highlighting the deep bond they shared. Tragically, Jalen, who leaves behind four children, including twins, was killed in the altercation.

According to authorities, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 42-year-old Michael Alan Harris with first-degree murder in Jalen’s death. Police are actively searching for additional suspects involved in the attack, including the individual who stabbed Glenn. Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred in front of bystanders who filmed the incident but did not intervene. “People just walked past. Nobody offered any help,” Glenn lamented.

In a heartbreaking revelation, LaKaela Harvey, Jalen’s partner, expressed her grief, saying, “My only daughter will never know what it’s like to have a father.” Glenn, still recovering from his injuries, issued a powerful plea to those involved: “Turn yourself in or give them up. It should’ve never ended with someone dead and another person nearly losing their life.”

The owner of Chita’s Nefertiti Bar released a statement expressing condolences and emphasizing their commitment to community safety. “We have never condoned, supported, or stood for violence of any kind,” the statement read. “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic incident.”

Fundraisers are underway to assist Glenn with medical expenses and support Jalen’s young children. The community is rallying to honor Jalen’s memory, and anyone with information about the suspects is urged to contact Detroit police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

As this disturbing case unfolds, the Stevens family continues to seek justice for Jalen and healing for Glenn. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
