Hilary Duff Scores First No. 1 Album in Australia with ‘Luck… Or Something’

Hilary Duff has made a remarkable return to the music scene, debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with her new album, Luck… Or Something. This achievement marks her first time at the top of the Australian albums chart, published on February 27, 2024. The album is Duff’s sixth studio release and her fourth appearance in the top 10.

Previously, Duff reached notable positions on the chart, landing at No. 6 with her self-titled album in 2004, No. 3 with Most Wanted in 2005, and No. 4 with Breathe In Breathe Out in 2015. Notably, Luck… Or Something is also the best-selling album on vinyl in Australia this past week, according to ARIA.

As Duff celebrates her success, Olivia Dean’s album, The Art of Loving, slips from No. 1 to No. 2. Completing the top three is Tom Busby, whose debut solo album, Rockhampton Hangover, enters the chart at No. 3. Busby is known for his work as part of the blues and roots duo Busby Marou, which previously achieved a No. 1 ranking in 2017.

Additionally, Mumford & Sons makes an impressive entry at No. 5 with their sixth studio album, Prizefighter. This release continues their streak of top 10 albums, following their No. 1 success with Sigh No More in 2009.

Another Australian artist, Meg Mac, adds to her accolades with her new album, It’s My Party, which debuts at No. 6. This marks Mac’s fourth appearance in the top 10, following her earlier rankings of No. 2 with Love Blows in 2017 and No. 1 with Matter Of Time in 2022.

Other notable entries in the ARIA Top 50 include Baby Keem at No. 13 with Ca$ino, Megan Moroney at No. 20 with Cloud 9, and Sydney artists Above, Below and Maya-A, who appear at No. 35 and No. 46, respectively.

While Dean may have lost her albums chart crown, she continues to dominate the singles chart with her hit “Man I Need,” which remains at No. 1 for the 15th consecutive week. This achievement ties her with Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” for the third-longest-running No. 1 single in Australia.

Dean’s other tracks, including “Rein Me In,” a collaboration with Sam Fender, climbs to No. 2, while “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” slips to No. 3. With this feat, she joins an elite group of artists, including The Beatles and Taylor Swift, who have secured the top three spots on the singles chart.

In a related note, following the announcement of a national arena tour this October, Tame Impala sees their single “Dracula” climb from No. 23 to No. 21, marking it as the only Australian recording in the top 50 this week.

Hilary Duff’s triumphant return, combined with the vibrancy of the current music scene in Australia, highlights the dynamic shifts within the industry and the growing diversity of talent making waves on the charts.
