URGENT UPDATE: Judith Lynn Parsons, a cherished figure in the Soquel community, passed away peacefully at her home on October 15, 2025, after a joyful visit with her family. She was 92 years old and is remembered for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her loved ones and community.
Born in 1932 to Dorothy Graebe-Zent and Claude Zent in Stockton, California, Judy overcame early challenges, including losing her mother at a young age. Raised by her grandparents, she flourished into a strong, independent woman with a passion for politics and baseball. A proud graduate of San Jose State University, she was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Judy’s love story with her husband, Paul Parsons, began at Cowell’s Beach. They married in 1954 and built a life in Rio Del Mar before settling in Soquel, where they raised their three children on Fairway Drive. Their home became a hub of family activity, with Judy described as the BEST grandmother to her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Throughout her career, Judy made significant contributions to her community. She worked for the Girl Scouts and Parks and Recreation, and owned the Parsons Insurance Agency in Capitola, where she was known for her unwavering support of local clients. Judy and Paul were deeply involved in various community initiatives, including the Sportscar Club and the Land Trust, which led to the creation of Anna Jean Cummins Park, also known as Blue Ball Park.
Judy’s passion for baseball was unmatched; she and Paul were avid fans of the Oakland A’s, holding season tickets and rarely missing a game. Summers at their family cabin at Woods Lake were filled with laughter and cherished memories, as they entertained friends and enjoyed outings to casinos in Nevada.
In her later years, Judy remained active in progressive politics, passionately advocating for local causes and supporting numerous politicians. Her adventurous spirit took her and Paul on travels across Central and South America, the Caribbean, and even a remarkable safari in Africa as they approached their 90s.
Judy is survived by her three children, Randall Parsons (Alison), Stacey Ely (Skip), and Pepe Parsons (Amy D), along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul, who passed away just months earlier while holding her hand.
In honor of Judy’s legacy of service and community involvement, her family encourages donations to local charities. A heartfelt thanks is extended to her best friends, her dedicated care team, and the VNA nurses who provided exceptional support in her final days.
Family and close friends will gather to celebrate Judy’s remarkable life during the upcoming holiday season. Judy’s impact on her community and family will be felt for generations to come.
