Luzerne County Council Meetings Shift to Online Streaming Only

UPDATE: Luzerne County Council meetings will no longer be broadcast on Service Electric Cable TV as of November 10, 2025. The council voted 5-4 to reject a proposed contract that would have continued the broadcasts at no charge, shifting the focus to online streaming instead.

The move means residents will now be able to watch council meetings live on the county’s official website at www.luzernecounty.org or join remotely via Zoom. This change comes as officials emphasize the importance of public participation in local governance.

“County Council voted to not renew our contract for broadcasting the Luzerne County Council meetings, so we will no longer be broadcasting, live streaming, or posting the recordings on this channel. We are sorry for the inconvenience,” a statement on the Luzerne County Community Channel’s YouTube page confirmed.

Residents can interact with the council during meetings using computers or smartphones, with a dedicated Zoom link available for access. Additionally, participants can dial in via phone to join discussions on important local issues.

Romilda Crocamo, Luzerne County Manager, highlighted the significance of community involvement: “It’s important that residents have an opportunity to take part in public meetings where decisions that impact them are being made.” She noted that the county’s information technology department is capable of handling all video work, ensuring that meetings remain accessible to the public.

The previous contract with Service Electric allowed for exclusive broadcasting rights, but modifications proposed by Councilman Harry Haas to remove the exclusivity were ultimately not enough to save the agreement. The council’s decision marks a new chapter in how local governance is communicated, emphasizing remote participation.

Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for the next council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 6 PM. For more details on County Council meetings, visit https://www.luzernecounty.org/calendar.aspx?view=list&year=2025&month=11&day=25.

This transition reflects a growing trend toward digital engagement in local governance, making it easier for residents to stay informed and involved in matters that affect their lives. As the county explores options to enhance the streaming experience, including potential live sessions on YouTube, residents are urged to embrace this new format for accessing vital community discussions.
