Metro Detroit Faces Record Highs Followed by Sudden Cold Snap

UPDATE: Metro Detroit is experiencing an unusual weather shift today, with record high temperatures expected to reach 58°F in Detroit, breaking a 75-year-old record of 55°F set in 1949. However, a strong cold front is on the way, bringing a drastic temperature drop this afternoon.

As of now, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 PM, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. The warm southwest winds will quickly shift to colder northwest winds, causing temperatures to plummet by late afternoon. By 5 PM, expect temperatures to fall to around 45°F in the city and as low as 38°F northwest of Detroit.

Meteorologists are warning that today will be the warmest day in a long time, featuring early morning temperatures in the 50s. However, as the cold front moves through, temperatures are predicted to drop into the 40s by late afternoon and into the 30s tonight.

Looking ahead to Saturday, residents should prepare for a mix of rain and snow, particularly in the afternoon. While Detroit can expect more rain than snow, areas northwest of the city may see greater snowfall as temperatures linger in the upper 30s. Winds will shift to the east at 5-10 mph.
