Nathan Swanepoel Wins Silver at FIG World Age Group Championships

BREAKING: Nathan Swanepoel of Scotts Valley has just earned a silver medal for Team USA at the 31st Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) World Age Group Competitions held in Navarra Arena, Pamplona, Spain. This marks Swanepoel’s first international competition, where he showcased his exceptional skills in the Men’s Double-Mini Trampoline for the 17 to 21-year-olds category, finishing with a score of 25.100.

This thrilling event saw gymnastics athletes from 46 countries competing, highlighting the global talent in the sport. Swanepoel’s performance has captured attention, as he placed second in both the prelims and finals. He expressed his excitement on Instagram, stating, “I am beyond happy with how my first World Age Group Competition went. I have so much gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Spain for the U.S., and I am very thankful for the support from all of my coaches and medical staff. Could not have asked for a better week. Y gracias España.”

In a competitive field, Canada’s Jeremy Meyer took home gold with a slightly higher score of 25.200, while Australia’s River Mallam secured bronze with 24.900. The urgency to showcase skills on an international platform has never been greater, and Swanepoel’s achievement adds to the growing reputation of American gymnastics.

Swanepoel trains at North Valley Gymnastics in Phoenix and is a current student at Arizona State University. His journey in gymnastics began under the guidance of Vernon Vargas at Vargas Academy of Gymnastics in 2013. This significant milestone reflects both his personal dedication and the support of his trainers.

Also competing from the region, Taj Rodriguez Gleitsman from Santa Cruz, an Aptos High alum and student at the University of Utah, participated in three events. He ranked 19th out of 87 athletes in the Individual Men’s Trampoline prelims but did not make the finals, which only accepted the top eight. Gleitsman also competed in the Men’s Synchronized Pair Trampoline alongside Changamire Anderson, finishing 15th out of 33 teams in prelims, and placed 41st in the Individual Men’s Double-Mini Trampoline.

The FIG World Age Group Championships is a prestigious event that continues to elevate gymnasts’ careers globally. As Nathan Swanepoel returns home with a silver medal, he not only represents his country but also inspires young athletes everywhere.
