Redondo Union Boys Basketball Dominates Democracy Prep 87-61

UPDATE: The Redondo Union boys basketball team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Democracy Prep from Las Vegas 87-61 at the Harvard-Westlake Winter Showcase on Friday. With this victory, the Sea Hawks improve to 3-0 this season, showcasing their determination to bounce back after a close call in last year’s CIF State playoffs.

The Sea Hawks, who were just seven points shy of reaching the CIF State finals last season, are using that frustration as motivation. Coach Reggie Morris emphasized the need for urgency and aggressive defense, a lesson that paid off as the game progressed.

After a tight first 10 minutes, Redondo Union surged forward with a 21-6 run following a timeout, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. SJ Madison led the charge with an impressive 23 points, alongside six rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. His teammate Devin Wright contributed significantly with 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Chris Sanders added 14 points and six rebounds.

“We are trying to beat everyone. We don’t want to lose at all,” said Madison, reflecting on the team’s aggressive mindset.

Madison’s strong start to the second half propelled the Sea Hawks’ lead to as much as 31 points midway through the third quarter. Although Democracy Prep managed to reduce the deficit to 19 points late in the game, Redondo Union answered decisively, with Wright scoring eight consecutive points in the final minute of the quarter.

“We all have worked so hard in the offseason learning a lot from last year,” Wright stated. “These early games will get us ready for what we will face when we get to league and the playoffs.”

Despite the decisive win, Coach Morris remains focused on improvement. “We didn’t get off to a good start in the first half. I just told my guys they have to start playing with more urgency and get more aggressive on defense,” he explained. “SJ stepped it up, but we still have room to grow.”

As the Sea Hawks continue to navigate a challenging schedule, their sights are set on dominating the Bay League and making a deep run in the CIF-SS Playoffs. Their next matchup promises to be crucial as they aim to maintain their momentum and build on this significant victory.

This game not only highlights the Sea Hawks’ commitment to improvement but also their determination to not repeat past mistakes. Fans and players alike are eager to see how this season unfolds as Redondo Union solidifies its place among the top teams in high school basketball.
