Down by 12 points, the Pirates ramped up their defensive efforts and executed an impressive 20-10 run in the fourth quarter to force overtime. “We had to come together offensively, knowing our strengths and we played harder on defense,” said San Pedro’s Ricky Alonso, who was pivotal in the comeback.
The overtime was tense, with Palos Verdes taking a brief 58-57 lead thanks to free throws from Luke Dalis. However, the Pirates quickly responded with a commanding 6-0 run, putting them ahead 63-58. Despite a late-game 3-pointer from PV’s Max Cui, Alonso sealed the victory by sinking six straight free throws, culminating in a standout performance of 21 points, including 15 points in the critical fourth quarter and overtime.
Chris Morgan and Elias Redlew also contributed significantly, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Palos Verdes’ Max Cui led all scorers with an impressive 28 points.
