TBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Johnson City

UPDATE: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is urgently probing an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man during a standoff on Saturday afternoon in Johnson City. The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. at a residence located in the 100 block of Jarrett Buck Loop Road, following a report of vandalism.

Authorities reported that when deputies from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they encountered a man armed with a gun who subsequently barricaded himself inside the home. In an attempt to coax him into surrendering, deputies utilized chemical agents and other non-lethal methods without success.

The situation escalated as the suspect fired at deputies and even shot down a law enforcement drone. In a further effort to persuade him to come out, deputies aimed a fire department water hose at the barricaded individual. However, during this tense exchange, deputies discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. He was rushed to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the confrontation, but the TBI is now working to independently determine the sequence of events that led to this deadly encounter. This includes collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The findings from this investigation will be forwarded to the district attorney general for review.

The TBI’s ongoing investigation is critical, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in law enforcement actions. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Share this news to keep others informed about this developing story.
