Upper Darby Firefighters Deliver 40 Thanksgiving Food Boxes

UPDATE: Upper Darby firefighters are making a significant impact this Thanksgiving by delivering over 40 food boxes to families in need. On November 25, 2023, members of the Upper Darby Fire Department, along with their families, rallied at the Cardington fire station to assemble and distribute meals.

The initiative was spearheaded by retired Chief Ed Cubler, a local hero known for his decades-long commitment to providing Thanksgiving meals to those less fortunate. This year, the team worked swiftly to ensure that families would receive not just a meal, but a full holiday experience.

Josh Laubach, a Shop Steward with IAFF Local 2493, confirmed that the firefighters and their new Chief, Nick Martin, collaborated to organize the food boxes, ensuring that each one contained essential items for a traditional Thanksgiving feast. “We are proud to give back to our community,” Laubach stated.

The food boxes included turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings, allowing families to celebrate the holiday with a hearty meal. This effort exemplifies the spirit of community service that the Upper Darby firefighters embody, especially during the holiday season.

As families across Upper Darby prepare for Thanksgiving, this generous act not only provides nourishment but also strengthens community bonds. The firefighters’ commitment to supporting their neighbors highlights the importance of coming together during challenging times.

Looking ahead, the Upper Darby Fire Department plans to continue its outreach, ensuring that every family in need has the chance to celebrate the holidays with dignity. This event underscores the critical role local organizations play in fostering community resilience.
