Urgent Snow Alert for Central PA: Accumulations Expected Until 8 AM

UPDATE: A weather alert has been issued for Central Pennsylvania as snow accumulations are expected until 8 a.m. this morning. The National Weather Service confirmed the alert at 3:26 a.m., warning residents in several counties, including Northern Clinton, Northern Centre, and others, to prepare for hazardous travel conditions.

The early to mid-morning hours will see a compact but potent upper-level disturbance moving east from South-Central PA to the Southern Poconos. According to the forecast, snow will begin tapering off west of Interstate 99 between 4 and 5 a.m. and will then focus on the Middle Susquehanna Valley and Western Poconos until 8 a.m..

Officials predict 1 to 2 inches of wet snow on untreated roads, creating slushy and potentially dangerous driving conditions during the mid-morning commute. Areas southeast of a line from Altoona to State College and Williamsport will be most affected, impacting students and workers heading to schools and jobs.

“Use extra caution if you must travel this morning as potentially slick roads may lead to accidents. Slow down and allow plenty of stopping distance between you and the vehicle ahead. Avoid braking suddenly,”

states the National Weather Service.

Residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for possible delays. This short bout of wintry weather is expected to disrupt daily activities across Central PA, prompting heightened awareness for commuters.
