UPDATE: Authorities in Texas have made a grim discovery in the search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve. A body was found shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, just 100 yards from her home in northwest Bexar County.
The body, located in an area previously searched, was wearing clothing similar to what Olmos was reported to have been last seen in — a baby-blue and black hoodie, baby-blue pajama bottoms, and white shoes. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that the search had intensified as authorities believed she may have been in “imminent danger” at the time of her disappearance.
In a press briefing, Sheriff Salazar expressed the community’s sorrow, stating, “This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for.” The body’s identification is pending, and no cause of death has been determined yet. Investigators have indicated that foul play is not currently suspected.
Earlier on Tuesday, authorities released dash cam footage showing a person believed to be Olmos walking along the road. The video, recorded in low light, featured an individual in clothing matching the description released by officials. Investigators are also reviewing neighborhood doorbell camera footage that captured Olmos searching her vehicle before she went missing.
Olmos left her home on foot, taking only her car keys and possibly her driver’s license, according to the sheriff’s department. Salazar revealed that investigators have noted indications of past suicidal ideations and depression in Olmos, but he refrained from linking these issues directly to her disappearance. “What young person doesn’t have bouts of depression?” he questioned, emphasizing the need to consider all possibilities surrounding her case.
This tragic development has shocked the San Antonio community, which has rallied around Olmos’s family during their search. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
As this story develops, the community remains hopeful for answers regarding Olmos’s fate. The sheriff’s department will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
