Urgent Update: Nursing Home Worker Charged with Theft from Elderly Resident

BREAKING: A nursing home worker has been charged with stealing from an elderly resident at the Providence Rehabilitation Center in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. Charlene Eady, 55, faces serious charges including theft, receiving stolen property, and unauthorized use of an access device, following a police investigation that began on October 20, 2023.

Yeadon police received reports of a missing debit card belonging to a senior citizen at the facility, located at 600 Wycombe Ave. The victim, who relies on the nursing home’s staff for daily care, reported that her credit cards, typically stored in her purse, had vanished along with several unauthorized transactions made on her account.

According to Yeadon Police Chief Henry Giammarco Jr., a detailed investigation, led by Detective Leah Cesanek, revealed that Eady allegedly used the victim’s debit card multiple times at various locations across Chester. “This type of crime is deeply disturbing,” Giammarco stated. “The victim, a senior citizen residing in a nursing home, depends on caregivers for protection and dignity.”

Giammarco emphasized the community’s responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of its elderly residents, stating that Eady’s actions not only breached ethical standards but also fundamental moral principles.

Following her arraignment before District Judge Keith Williams II, Eady was unable to post bail set at 10 percent of $5,000 and is currently held at Delaware County prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 9, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities may consider additional charges pending further findings. Giammarco reassured the public, “As always, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

This case highlights the urgent need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable populations, particularly in care facilities. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
