URGENT UPDATE: A person of interest in the Richmond homicide has shot himself in the parking lot of the San Pablo Police Department on Tuesday, intensifying the investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred just a day earlier. The shocking incident unfolded shortly after 5:00 p.m. when officers heard a single gunshot echoing from the police department’s lot.
According to San Pablo Police Captain James Laughter, responding officers found a male subject on the ground suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition, as reported by KTVU FOX 2.
The earlier homicide took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday at an IHOP located in the 3400 block of Klose Way. Authorities confirmed that the victim and the person of interest were coworkers at the restaurant. Initial reports indicated that colleagues believed the victim’s injuries were accidental; however, upon arrival, firefighters noticed signs that raised suspicion and alerted police.
Tragically, the victim succumbed to a gunshot wound at the scene, prompting a swift investigation by both the Richmond and San Pablo police departments. Before the individual shot himself, he had approached an officer at the San Pablo Police Department, but a language barrier hindered communication, leading him to leave the area.
Law enforcement has not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the Richmond shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
