Midco Foundation Grants $10,000 to Support Salvation Army’s Outreach

The Midco Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Grand Forks Salvation Army, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential resources to the community. This funding will bolster the Salvation Army’s efforts in supporting those in need within Grand Forks County and East Grand Forks, Minnesota, which serves approximately 450 to 500 people each month through its food pantry and social services.

According to a press release issued by Midco on November 18, 2023, the local Salvation Army has reported a staggering 40% increase in demand for its food pantry services in recent weeks. This surge underscores the vital role of community support during these challenging times.

Community Impact and Urgent Needs

Ben Dold, President and Chief Operating Officer of Midco, emphasized the growing strain on food banks across the Midwest. “Food banks are experiencing serious strain amid rising costs and an increased need for their critical services,” he stated. “Today, Midco is honored to support the outreach of the Grand Forks Salvation Army and share their story of hope with families across the community.”

Eugene Ware, the Salvation Army’s corps officer, expressed gratitude for the grant. “This support will help us meet urgent needs in our community, such as emergency assistance for those facing food insecurity, and offer hope to our neighbors when they need it most,” Ware said.

The assistance from Midco comes at a time when the community’s need for food and resources is more pronounced than ever. Rhonda Erickson, Senior Community Relations Manager and Foundation Executive Director at Midco, reflected on the season of giving. “Their daily acts of kindness and generosity keep many of our community members, including children and the elderly, fed and healthy,” she noted. “We’re so honored to help them with this grant and hope others will join us in recognizing them for their humble heroism.”

Ways to Get Involved

The press release also highlighted several initiatives for public participation with the Grand Forks Salvation Army. A community meal is scheduled for November 21, 2023, inviting everyone to join and share in the spirit of giving. Additionally, on December 12, Northdale Oil will host Big Ring Day, where donations of $0.10 to $0.50 per gallon of fuel are encouraged, with a goal to raise $60,000 that day. Corporate and community support will match every $20 donation to become $100.

Furthermore, the Salvation Army is continuously seeking volunteers for various roles, including bell ringing, assisting at the thrift store, and supporting its core programs. The community’s involvement remains crucial as the organization strives to fulfill its mission of service and support.
