U.S. Navy Honors Top Installations with Battle ‘E’ Awards

The U.S. Navy has announced the recipients of the prestigious Battle “E” Award, recognizing several military installations for their exceptional support of the fleet, fighters, and families. According to a Navy release, the awards celebrate excellence in generating and supporting combat capabilities across various facilities.

The Battle “E” Award honors installations that demonstrate superior operational performance. Alongside this, the Installation Excellence Award acknowledges overall innovation and effectiveness, with winners qualifying for the Commander in Chief’s Installation Excellence Award, which identifies the top installation from each service annually.

Highlights of the Award Winners

“The outstanding performance of this year’s winners is a direct reflection of the dedication and professionalism of our Sailors and civilians,” stated Vice Adm. Scott Gray, commander of Navy Installations Command. He emphasized that these personnel are the backbone of the Navy’s shore enterprise, ensuring installations act as force multipliers for fleet readiness and global power projection.

Among the notable recipients of the Battle “E” Award is Naval Base San Diego in California. This base supports 58 afloat tenants and 251 ashore commands, managing approximately 1,300 ship movements and engaging with around 13 million service members.

In Florida, Naval Station Mayport was recognized for being the most operational base in the southeastern U.S., executing over 71,000 flights and facilitating 525 ship movements. Another significant award went to Naval Air Facility El Centro, also in California, which distinguished itself as a premier tactical training installation, conducting 25,000 mishap-free flight operations for the U.S. military and allied forces.

Additional recipients of the Battle “E” Award include Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Florida and the Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands in Hawaii.

Installation Excellence Recognized

Both Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Whiting Field also received the Installation Excellence Award. This recognition reflects their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for service members through improved housing and training initiatives. Notably, Naval Air Station Whiting Field produces around 600 new aviators each year.

The awards highlight the Navy’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and the vital role that these installations play in supporting the broader mission of the United States Navy. The recognition serves not only as an accolade for the facilities themselves but also as a testament to the hard work of the personnel dedicated to serving their country.
