Duke’s Restaurant Reopens in Malibu After Extensive Renovations

Duke’s Restaurant in Malibu has officially reopened its doors following a significant renovation process that spanned fourteen months. Located at 21150 Pacific Coast Highway, the restaurant was affected by the devastating Palisades fire in January 2025, which impacted approximately 6,800 structures in the area. Subsequent rains and mudslides in February 2025 caused further damage, necessitating extensive restoration efforts.

Welcome Back to Duke’s

Beginning March 13, 2026, Duke’s will operate from Thursday to Sunday, with hours set from 12:00 to 20:00. Guests can enjoy both the main dining room and the popular Barefoot Bar, which promises to deliver the signature experience that the restaurant is known for.

Duke’s is part of the T S Family of Restaurants, which includes other well-known establishments such as Jake’s in Del Mar, Hula Grill, and Kimo’s. The restaurant’s reopening is infused with the spirit of its namesake, Duke Kahanamoku, who was born on August 24, 1890, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kahanamoku was an Olympic champion and an ambassador of Hawaiian culture, known for introducing surfing to the world.

Aloha Spirit in Every Bite

The restaurant’s management emphasized that the reopening embodies the “Aloha Spirit,” a cultural philosophy defined by kindness, unity, and warmth. This spirit is integral not only to the dining experience but also in how staff interact with guests. The concept of Aloha, outlined in the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, highlights essential values such as kindness, humility, and perseverance. These traits are meant to foster a genuine connection between individuals and the surrounding community.

“Aloha means mutual regard and affection, extending warmth in caring with no obligation in return,” the restaurant’s website states.

Guests can expect to find the famous Hula Pie on the menu, a dessert that has become synonymous with the restaurant’s legacy. The recipe for this beloved dish originated at Kimo’s on Maui, where it was described as “what the sailors swam ashore for in Old Lahaina Town.”

With its reopening, Duke’s aims to not only restore a beloved local dining spot but also to rekindle the sense of community that was disrupted by recent natural disasters. The management looks forward to welcoming both loyal patrons and new visitors to experience the essence of Hawaiian hospitality.

As the restaurant prepares for its grand reopening, the team expresses gratitude for the support received during the restoration process and is excited to share its culinary offerings once again with the Malibu community.
