Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has successfully advised Vistra, a Fortune 500 integrated retail electricity and power generation company, in securing a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with Meta. This long-term agreement will span 20 years and will provide over 2,600 megawatts of zero-carbon nuclear energy sourced from three of Vistra’s plants located in the PJM region.
The announcement, made on January 16, 2026, highlighted the collaboration between Vistra and Meta, with public support from notable officials, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and U.S. Senators Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Dave McCormick (R-Pa.). This agreement encompasses both existing generation capacity of 2,176 MW and an additional 433 MW from planned nuclear uprates.
Impact on Local Economies and Energy Infrastructure
With this agreement, Vistra aims to ensure the continued operation and expansion of its nuclear facilities, namely the Beaver Valley, Davis-Besse, and Perry nuclear power plants. The long-term nature of these PPAs is expected to create and sustain thousands of jobs, contributing positively to local economies while reinforcing Vistra’s commitment to advancing clean energy infrastructure.
The new agreements are set to commence in late 2026, with the full capacity projected to come online by 2034. This timeline reflects a strategic investment in the future of renewable energy, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions through cleaner power sources.
Iskender “Alex” H. Catto from Greenberg Traurig played a pivotal role in advising Vistra throughout this transaction. The legal firm’s extensive expertise in energy law and large-scale agreements underpins the successful navigation of this complex deal, which positions Vistra as a key player in the nuclear energy sector.
