Apple TV+ has officially renewed the comedy series Platonic for a third season, confirming the return of stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. The announcement came on December 5, 2023, just two months after the second season’s finale aired. The show’s renewal follows a successful second season that achieved a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a notable increase from the first season’s 93% rating.
Co-creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco expressed their enthusiasm for the show’s extension. In a joint statement, they remarked, “We couldn’t be more excited to get back into the world of Platonic with our amazing partners, Rose and Seth, and Sony and Apple.”
The head of programming for Apple TV+, Matt Cherniss, added to the excitement, stating, “Nick and Francesca accomplished the rare feat of taking the show to the next level in season two, and, along with our partners at Sony, we can’t wait to see what they cook up for season three.”
What to Expect in Season Three
“Platonic is proof there is no duo better at making us belly laugh at midlife crises than Seth and Rose,”
Cherniss noted, highlighting the show’s unique charm.
The series focuses on two former best friends who reconnect after a prolonged separation, navigating the complexities of midlife. Rogen and Byrne portray characters whose rekindled friendship disrupts their lives in humorous ways. The second season explored various midlife challenges, including work pressures, weddings, and personal crises, showcasing the duo’s attempts to support each other, often with chaotic results.
Alongside Rogen and Byrne, the cast includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo. Season two also featured guest appearances from notable actors such as Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim.
Looking Ahead
As fans eagerly await the next chapter of Platonic, the show’s continued success reflects Apple TV+’s commitment to producing engaging and quality content. Following the announcement of its renewal, viewers are encouraged to explore the platform for other series that have been renewed or canceled this year.
The combination of Rogen and Byrne, along with the creative talents behind the scenes, promises an entertaining continuation of a series that has resonated with audiences, proving that the complexities of friendship can be both hilarious and heartfelt.
