Dallas has secured a prominent position in WalletHub’s newly released ranking of America’s most fun cities, moving up to 26th place in 2025. This improvement highlights the city’s vibrant entertainment and nightlife scenes, which have contributed significantly to its appeal.
According to WalletHub’s “Most Fun Cities in America (2025)” study, 182 U.S. cities were evaluated based on 65 metrics. These metrics included the number of sports venues, music venues, shopping centers per capita, and the average cost of dining. The evaluation categorized the metrics into three main areas: entertainment and recreation, nightlife and parties, and cost.
Dallas’ Rising Fun Factor
Dallas achieved its highest score in the nightlife and parties category, ranking 23rd overall. However, it faces challenges in entertainment and recreation, where it ranks 35th, and in cost, where it falls to 99th. Despite these areas for improvement, Dallas’ overall standing indicates a greater level of “fun” compared to many other cities across the United States.
This year marks a notable rise for Dallas, which climbed five places from its previous ranking of 31st in 2024. The city’s dynamic atmosphere has evidently resonated with residents and visitors alike.
Other cities in North Texas also made appearances in the rankings. Fort Worth came in at 60th place, while Arlington and Plano were further down the list at 71st and 78th, respectively.
Texas Cities Shine
In the broader context of Texas, Houston emerged as the top city in the state and the 6th most fun city in America for 2025. Houston’s ascendance overtook Austin, which dropped from 6th to 8th place in this year’s rankings. Additionally, San Antonio ranked 23rd, and El Paso and Corpus Christi placed 62nd and 94th, respectively.
The report provided by WalletHub emphasizes the importance of variety in a city’s offerings. As the report’s author noted, “The decision of where to live could save or cost you a lot of money and fun, so it’s fair to wonder what makes a fun city.” A diverse range of activities ensures that residents and visitors can find something enjoyable to do, whether alone or with others.
Notably, Chicago and New York City both fell out of the top 10 most fun American cities this year, with Chicago now at 11th and New York City at 14th.
The complete list of the top 10 most fun U.S. cities in 2025, according to WalletHub, is as follows:
1. Las Vegas, Nevada
2. Orlando, Florida
3. Miami, Florida
4. Atlanta, Georgia
5. New Orleans, Louisiana
6. Houston, Texas
7. San Francisco, California
8. Austin, Texas
9. Portland, Oregon

As Dallas continues to enhance its entertainment offerings, its rise in WalletHub’s rankings reflects a broader trend of cities competing to provide engaging experiences for residents and visitors alike.
