Rain Forces Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Closure on Sunday
The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair will remain closed on Sunday due to heavy rain that has rendered the grounds too wet for vehicle parking and ride operations. Following two rounds of rainfall since Saturday, fair officials announced the closure, impacting planned events for the day.
As a result of the closure, the organization is working to reschedule both the High School Volunteer Awards Ceremony and the Lego Extravaganza, which were intended to take place Sunday afternoon. Fair officials are also conducting assessments of the fairgrounds to determine the feasibility of reopening on Monday.
This year’s fair, which began on October 26, is set to run for 11 days, concluding on November 2. The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair has been a cherished regional tradition since its inception in 1965. Operated primarily by volunteers, the fair has contributed approximately $5 million to scholarships and local causes through its foundation since 1987.
The weather conditions have undoubtedly posed challenges for the event, but organizers remain hopeful that the fair can resume activities soon. The community eagerly anticipates the return of this beloved event, which not only provides entertainment but also supports local initiatives.
Updates regarding the fair’s status will continue to be communicated as assessments are completed and a decision is made about Monday’s schedule.
