Seniors Celebrate Final Performance of The Nutcracker This Weekend

The annual production of *The Nutcracker* will showcase its final performances this weekend, December 9-10, 2023, featuring talented seniors from local high schools. This beloved holiday classic has been a cornerstone of the community, bringing joy and excitement to audiences for years.

Mabel Taylor, a senior at Christian Heritage High School, reflects on her experience, stating, “The Nutcracker has always been a tradition that makes Christmas special as it is filled with excitement, joy, and the feeling of hard work paying off.” Mabel will perform as the Snow Queen, as well as in several other roles including a Flower and a Mouse. Her commitment to the production exemplifies the dedication shared by the cast, who have grown together throughout their years of participation.

As the curtain prepares to fall on this chapter, the ten senior dancers are filled with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. Many have performed together in various roles over the years, including Little Angels and Party Girls. Ryleigh Albright from Southeast Whitfield High School describes the camaraderie, saying, “I have never had sisters, so this group is so special to me! I’m glad to perform one more time with my dance sisters!” Ryleigh will take the stage as the Snow Queen and in multiple ensemble roles, highlighting the versatility of this talented group.

The emotional weight of the final performances is palpable. Rebekah Bridges, a senior from Northwest Whitfield High School, expresses her sentiments about the production: “Nutcracker means joy, excitement, and love because I get to dance with all my favorite people in my final ballet.” She will perform as the Chinese Tea Princess and other roles, cherishing the shared moments with her fellow dancers.

Brynlee Burch, another senior from Southeast Whitfield, recalls her favorite memories, noting, “My favorite Nutcracker memory was getting to be Mother Ginger and seeing my friends support me from the wings.” This year, she is excited to perform alongside her little sister, creating a special bond during their last show together.

As the performances draw near, many seniors reflect on their long-standing connection to *The Nutcracker*. Mia Cervantes of Dalton High School shares, “The Nutcracker has been part of my life since I was five, and it holds so many special memories.” She will dance as the Chinese Tea Princess among other roles, embracing the bittersweet nature of her final performance.

Each dancer has unique experiences that have shaped their journey within the production. Lucy Hester, also from Dalton High School, recalls a lighter moment: “My favorite Nutcracker moment was when we were Chinese Tea Attendants and I led everyone through yoga to warm up during intermission.” Her performances will include multiple roles, showcasing her range and dedication.

The emotional significance of this production extends beyond the stage. Lynley Lewis, another senior from Dalton, emphasizes the importance of the experience: “Nutcracker has been very important to me as I have grown as a dancer and person.” Her final performance coincides with her sister’s first year in the company, further enriching the experience for the entire family.

For Tyler Robinson, a senior from Calhoun High School, the magic of *The Nutcracker* has transformed from childhood dreams into reality. “The Nutcracker makes the entire holiday season just seem a little bit brighter,” she notes, reflecting on her journey from watching performances to being a part of them. Tyler is excited to pass on the joy of dance to younger generations through her teaching experiences.

The anticipation builds as dancers prepare for their final bow. Each performance promises to be a celebration of their shared journey, filled with the joy of community and the bittersweet nature of farewells. As they take the stage one last time, these seniors will carry with them the memories and lessons learned throughout their years in *The Nutcracker*.
