Actress Evangeline Lilly, known for her roles in popular series such as “Lost” and the Marvel franchise, has opened up about her personal health challenges following a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Lilly disclosed that she suffered this injury in May when she fainted and fell onto a boulder during a visit to the beach in Hawaii.
In a video posted on January 2, she confirmed the diagnosis, stating, “I do have brain damage from my TBI.” Lilly explained that she has experienced unexplained fainting episodes since childhood. “The results came back from the scans, and almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity,” she said, emphasizing the seriousness of her condition.
Facing an Uphill Challenge
Lilly expressed a mix of relief and concern regarding her diagnosis. While it was comforting to know that her cognitive decline was not merely a result of natural aging, she acknowledged the difficult journey ahead to address her brain health. “My job now is to get to the bottom of that with doctors, and then embark on the hard work of fixing it,” she added.
The actress took to social media to address the many inquiries from her followers about her recovery. She noted that she has been on a hiatus from acting for the past three years, following her work on “Quantumania.” “This time outside of the business has brought me a grounding sense of fulfillment and joy,” Lilly stated. She indicated that her return to acting is uncertain; “I could return tomorrow, two years from now, or never,” she said, highlighting her focus on humanitarian efforts and personal writing during this period.
Gratitude and Support
In her social media message, Lilly expressed gratitude for the support she has received from her fans. “Thank you all for always asking, for always caring, and for your continued prayers,” she wrote, reflecting on the impact of her health struggles and the community that surrounds her.
As she navigates this challenging chapter, Lilly remains committed to addressing her health issues and exploring new avenues outside of her acting career. Her journey serves as a reminder of the resilience required to face personal battles, even for those who portray larger-than-life characters on screen.
