Over 30,000 Join Walk for Breast Cancer at Raymond James Stadium
More than 30,000 participants gathered at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on October 14, 2023, for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event organized by the American Cancer Society. This fundraiser brought together cancer survivors, families, friends, and individuals known as “pre-vivors,” who have a family history of the disease.
The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with the sounds of live music and the sights of numerous local vendors setting up booths. Participants walked a loop around the home stadium of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, creating a sense of community and solidarity among those affected by breast cancer.
Susan Fernandez, a committee member, spoke about the significance of the event, stating, “As much of a shock as it is, the American Cancer Society is there to help you all the way through.” This sentiment resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom shared personal stories of resilience and hope.
All proceeds from the event are directed toward cancer treatments and vital research initiatives. The fundraising goal for this year was set just above $1 million, reflecting the organization’s commitment to combating breast cancer.
The Making Strides event not only highlights the ongoing fight against breast cancer but also fosters a supportive environment for those touched by the disease. Participants expressed their determination to continue raising awareness and funds for research, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the battle against cancer.
As the walk concluded, the sense of accomplishment and camaraderie was palpable among participants. Their collective efforts serve as a reminder of the power of unity in facing life’s challenges, particularly in the fight against cancer.
