Remembering Steven Andrew Kovacs: A Life Celebrated in Music and Love

Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. His death marks the end of a life rich in music, education, and cherished moments spent with loved ones.

A well-respected figure in both the sales and education sectors, Kovacs dedicated a significant portion of his career to teaching at Dakota Tech. His passion for music blossomed early in life, beginning at home and later flourishing in the White Bear Lake High School choir. Kovacs was also involved in liturgical music and led several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and JS Trio.

Beyond music, Kovacs had a variety of interests that enriched his life. He was an avid woodworker and sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying golf. Much of his joy was found in spending time with his wife, Deb, at their lake home, where they created lasting memories together.

Kovacs is survived by his wife, Deb, and their two sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan). He was also a proud grandfather of Casey and Dylan. He leaves behind his sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis, as well as his brother, John Kovacs. His family wishes to express gratitude to Jody Jarvis, who played a vital role in providing loving assistance to Deb during Steve’s home hospice care.

A celebration of Steven Andrew Kovacs’ life is scheduled for 2 PM on January 6, 2026, with visitation starting one hour prior at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the St. Scholastica Convent (www.sbm.osb.org).
