Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas celebrated its 35th annual awards ceremony on December 9, 2025, at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas. Co-chairs Pam and John Beckert led the morning program, which included a significant conversation with activist and former First Daughter Barbara Bush, moderated by acclaimed journalist Tashara Parker.
Bush, who currently serves as the NBA’s Head of Social Responsibility, engaged the audience with a blend of humor and sincerity. She shared anecdotes about her family, highlighting both lighthearted moments and profound memories of her grandmother. Bush described her grandmother’s unwavering dedication to family and her advocacy for various causes, emphasizing the importance of commitment in social responsibility.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award, awarded to Froswa’ Booker-Drew, Ph.D.. In her acceptance speech, Booker-Drew underscored her extensive work advocating for women and communities of color. She discussed her collaboration with Planned Parenthood on a new initiative aimed at supporting women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, situating this program within her broader efforts in philanthropy and advocacy throughout North Texas and beyond.
Another notable recognition was the Katherine Ripley Print Media Award, which was bestowed upon The Dallas Morning News. This award celebrated the publication’s investigative series, “The Standard of Fear,” which explored the real-world implications of restrictive reproductive health care in Texas through personal narratives.

Following the awards, attendees continued their support for Planned Parenthood by dining at various restaurants across Dallas. Eateries such as Le Bilboquet, Nonna, Teak Tearoom, Mirador, and Lovers Seafood and Market participated in the initiative, donating a portion of their proceeds to the organization. This collaborative effort extended the impact of the awards ceremony, reinforcing community support for reproductive health initiatives.
