Community Mourns the Passing of Virginia Porter at 91

Virginia Porter, a beloved member of the local community, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Morgantown at the age of 91. Formerly residing in Star City and McMechen, Porter was known for her dedication to her family and her contributions to the community.

Born on November 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Irene Fankhauser Hawkins. Virginia made a significant impact during her career in Medical Records at the Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC). Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life as she was an active member of the First Christian Church in McMechen and the Order of the Eastern Star, Moundsville Chapter #86.

Legacy and Family

Porter was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Porter. She is survived by her two sons, Frederick D. (Kim) Porter of Marysville, Ohio, and Charles E. (Perri DeChristopher) Porter of Star City, along with her daughter Rena L. (Rodney) Carney of Columbus, Ohio. Virginia was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Nicholas Carney, Sydney and Chase Porter, and Hannah, Hayley, and Shane Wilson.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday, December 11, from 14:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville. A funeral service will take place the following day, December 12, at 11:00, led by Pastor Rodney Hubbs. A service by the Order of the Eastern Star will also be conducted on Thursday at 18:00, followed by interment at Halcyon Hills.
