Nearly 300 cyclists participated in the 2025 Ribble Valley Ride, raising approximately £7,000 to benefit the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Rotary Great Britain and Ireland. The event took place in the scenic Ribble Valley, with funds being presented at the Ribble Cycle showroom in Barrowbrook, near Clitheroe, on June 7, 2025.
Organized by the Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Accrington, the ride featured a variety of routes catering to different cycling abilities. Participants could choose from a family-friendly 25-mile route, a more challenging 50-mile option, or the demanding 70-mile course, which showcased some of the most breathtaking hill climbs in the region.
The event received ongoing support from Ribble Cycles, which sponsored the ride and contributed a prize fund of £3,000. All participants were entered into a draw to win one of three vouchers for Ribble Cycles. Additionally, Heidelberg Materials (formerly known as Hanson Cement) hosted the event headquarters, continuing a partnership that has lasted for seven years.
Volunteers played a crucial role in the event’s success, with many from the Rotary Clubs stepping up to organize logistics. A dedicated team prepared food for cyclists at two feed stations, ensuring that riders remained energized throughout their journey.
Event coordinator Bill Honeywell expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the past decade. “The Ribble Valley Ride has raised more than £70,000 for local charities, and this recognition should be shared by the small army of people who make the event happen,” he stated. He extended his thanks to everyone who has participated, as well as the sponsors and volunteers involved.
The fundraising manager at the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, Sue Swire, also acknowledged the contributions made by the cycling community. “We are very grateful to the organisers, sponsors, and hundreds of riders who have participated in this wonderful community event over the years,” she remarked.
Commercial director of Ribble Cycles, David Stacey, added, “We were extremely proud to again sponsor this year’s Ribble Valley Ride, and it’s wonderful to be able to make this donation to the amazing team at Rosemere.”
Looking ahead, plans are already underway for next year’s Ribble Valley Ride, which is set to take place on June 7, 2026. The event continues to demonstrate the power of community engagement in supporting local charities and fostering a spirit of collaboration among cyclists.
