Tulsa Launches Third Neighborhood Academy to Boost Community Engagement

The City of Tulsa has officially launched its third installment of the Neighborhood Academy, a program designed to empower local residents and neighborhood associations. This initiative aims to equip participants with essential tools to enhance their communities. Since its inception in October 2024, the program has experienced significant interest, with more than 200 residents currently registered and 56 individuals having already completed the training.

Participants in the Neighborhood Academy engage in a series of interactive workshops that provide practical skills. These workshops cover topics such as identifying neighborhood strengths, organizing volunteers, and utilizing the Neighborhood Conditions Index Report to facilitate community improvements. Upon completing all three workshops, attendees receive a neighborhood leader certificate from the City Council and the Mayor’s Office.

Community Voices and Success Stories

Feedback from participants highlights the program’s positive impact. Charles Cook, a recent graduate, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Neighborhood Academy was a great experience. I learned a lot and believe the program will bring progress for Tulsa.” His comments reflect the enthusiasm surrounding the initiative as it enters its third cohort, with hopes of attracting even greater participation.

In addition to current activities, a ceremonial graduation for 47 participants from the second cohort is scheduled for January 14 and January 21, 2026. These ceremonies will take place during City Council meetings, marking a celebratory start to the New Year for local initiatives.

Another participant, Kellie Pendleton, shared her insights about the program, stating, “The Neighborhood Academy provides knowledge, insight, and networking opportunities. I now have the knowledge and support needed to create a Neighborhood Association within my neighborhood. Thank you, City of Tulsa for caring about local neighborhoods.”

The Neighborhood Academy continues to foster community engagement and empowerment, making significant strides in enhancing local leadership. As Tulsa embraces this initiative, the city reinforces its commitment to supporting its residents in their efforts to create vibrant, connected neighborhoods.
