Virgil Wayne Whitwell, 84, Remembered for Family and Passion

Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell. Throughout his life, Virgil was known for his love of family, dedication to his work, and passion for classic cars.

A Life of Dedication and Passion

Virgil cherished the moments spent with his family, creating memories that his loved ones will carry forward. He was not only a devoted husband and father but also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy includes five children: Vickie Ramsey and husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Dan, Betty Niccum and husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and wife Kristin.

In addition to his children, Virgil is survived by many grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, and Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, along with twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. His brother, Raymond Whitwell, and sister, Jean Hawkins, also survive him, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virgil’s career with Teamsters Local #610 showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to his profession. After dedicating several years to the organization, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity. His family remembers him as someone who valued loyalty and companionship, traits reflected in his love for his dogs.

Final Farewell

Visitation will take place at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. The visitation will continue on October 24, 2025, from 09:00 until the service at 11:00, led by Pastor Russell Dotson. Following the service, interment will occur at Bonne Terre Cemetery.

Virgil’s warmth and kindness have left a lasting impression on all who knew him. As family and friends gather to honor his memory, they reflect on the qualities that made him special—a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a cherished friend. His impact will continue to resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
