Man Detained in Nancy Guthrie Case Released, Claims Innocence

A man detained in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been released by authorities after proclaiming his innocence. The individual, identified only as Carlos, was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon south of Tucson, Arizona, by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Carlos was held for several hours before being released shortly after midnight. In an exclusive interview with ABC15, he expressed confusion over his detention, stating he had never heard of Nancy Guthrie prior to his arrest. “They didn’t even tell me what’s going on until the detectives got here,” Carlos said. “They told me I was being detained for kidnapping, and I asked them, ‘Kidnapping of who?’”

Upon learning that he was linked to Nancy Guthrie’s case, Carlos insisted, “I work in Tucson for GLS. I might have delivered a package to your house, but I never kidnapped anybody.” He reported that deputies held him from around 16:00 local time for approximately eight hours, citing insufficient evidence as the basis for his release.

Carlos noted the limited evidence presented against him, mentioning that authorities had only seized his phone. “They only had a phone on me. That’s all they had,” he explained. He shared his thoughts during the ordeal, admitting, “Sh*t, bro. I’m facing life. I’m going to lose everything.”

As he was released, deputies informed Carlos that he was “free to go” but also mentioned that other agencies, including the FBI, may wish to question him further. Despite the uncertainty, he maintained his innocence, stating, “I’m innocent. I’ll let you know that. I didn’t do anything.”

The case surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance continues to unfold, with authorities actively investigating potential leads. As of now, Carlos has been cleared by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, but the investigation remains ongoing.
