Medina County District Library Offers Passport Services to Residents

Residents of Medina County, Ohio, can now access essential passport services at the Medina County District Library (MCDL). This initiative provides passport photo and processing services at the Medina, Brunswick, and Lodi libraries, making it easier for local residents to prepare for their travel needs.

Tina Sabol, the community engagement manager for MCDL, emphasized the importance of appointments, stating, “Appointments are required and the last one is made two hours before closing.” This structured approach includes a pre-interview process to ensure that applicants have the necessary documentation and to address any specific circumstances, such as custody or adoption issues.

For families, the passport application process is relatively efficient. Sabol noted that a typical family of four without complications can complete their applications in about one hour. To facilitate the process, she advised applicants to avoid wearing glasses, hats, or specific clothing, such as white or camouflage shirts, in their passport photos.

MCDL’s website offers a comprehensive resource for prospective applicants. “We always recommend people go to mcdl.info/Passport before they come in to see exactly what they need,” Sabol added. The site allows users to download and print forms at home or pick them up at the library. It also provides detailed information about application fees, mailing costs, and expedited service charges.

The demand for passport processing at MCDL has remained robust. In 2025, the library issued 3,958 passports, reflecting a 1 percent increase from the previous year. Sabol explained that the early months of the year are particularly busy, as many people prepare for summer travel. For instance, in January 2025 alone, the Medina Library processed 255 applications, followed by 191 in February, 228 in March, and 176 in April.

As the year progresses, the number of applications typically declines, with October seeing just 113 processed and November 107. “We are in the busy time of year,” Sabol noted, highlighting the seasonal nature of passport requests.

MCDL is committed to supporting the community with these essential services, ensuring residents are well-prepared for their travel needs. By providing a straightforward and supportive application process, the library helps ease the challenges of obtaining passports, particularly for families with special circumstances.
