The Centralia High School girls basketball team secured a narrow victory against Elma High School, winning 50-48 in a non-league matchup on November 15, 2023. The game took place at Ron Brown Court, where the Tigers showcased their resilience after initially trailing.
After the first quarter, Centralia found themselves down by seven points. However, a remarkable turnaround occurred in the second quarter, during which the Tigers scored 20 points, allowing them to take a commanding lead by halftime. Centralia’s offensive effort included converting three field goals and three free throws in the final eight minutes, ultimately sealing the victory against a determined Elma squad.
Leading the charge for Centralia was Anaya Saucedo, who contributed 14 points. She was supported by Maddie Ahern and Makenzie Erickson, both of whom added to the scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The team’s success was further bolstered by a strong performance on the boards from Aniela Gunn, who recorded a remarkable 17 rebounds, marking her second consecutive game with double-digit rebounds.
Centralia improved its record to 2-0 with this victory, demonstrating both offensive firepower and defensive tenacity. The Tigers now look ahead to their next challenge, continuing their homestand with a game against District 4 rival Hockinson on November 16, 2023.
